Most people around the globe are looking forward to farewelling 2020. The turbulence has been extraordinary and the New Year will offer a welcome chance to pause and reset.
You can expect the inevitable surge with predictions about the future to roll out in January. Usually, the writers are just listing trends that we knew about anyway with plenty of guesses thrown in.
No doubt some of these ‘expert’ guesses will prove right. I love the study that showed how if you give a monkey enough darts they can beat the stockmarket.
Amidst the crushing tragedies from the pandemic, the turmoil has seen some obvious winners in the business world, like the technology platforms, and we have seen an acceleration of change and innovation across all sectors.
Several years of digital transformation has happened in a matter of months, often at a fraction of the usual cost.
The development of vaccines has also happened at warp speed, offering real hope of more stability for 2021. It goes to show what can happen when people make innovation a priority!
Even better, we have seen amazing examples of generosity, kindness and goodwill towards others by individuals and organisations throughout the year.
In speaking with some of my best clients recently, a common topic is how to embed the new, more flexible and productive ways of working and avoid reverting to the old ways in 2021? Every leader has the choice to make it a priority to either out-create or succumb to the old ways.
A good way to start, is to choose to be kinder to ourselves and generous with others right through the year ahead.
I wish you a safe, healthy, peaceful, and prosperous future and look forward to continuing our weekly conversations in 2021.
Cheers,
Brian Ramsay
